The 12.3 United Nations Sustainable Development Goal is to halve global per capita food waste by 2030.
Almost one third of all food that is produced for human consumption is lost or wasted before reaching the table. This causes the loss economic loss of over 730 million pounds as well as huge environmental and social impact.
The food wasted consumes a quarter of all water used by agriculture, requiring land the size of China.
Wasting less food will mean more money for farmers, better food security, less greenhouse gas emissions and less pressure on land resources.
In 2017 at the United Nations General Assembly countries of the world formally said yes to following the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, reducing food waste being a part of goal number 12 that’s seeks to “ensure sustainable consumption and production matters”.
